Psychiatrist Online
Board-Certified Online Psychiatrists offer personalized Telepsychiatry Services such as teletherapy through HIPAA-Compliant Online Appointments.
GABA Telepsychiatry is a unique practice, where the online psychiatrist offers the closest possible approximation to traditional psychiatric services in a telepsychiatry format.
Psychiatrist Online Consultation
When you select a psychiatrist online at GABA Telepsychiatry, you choose a Board Certified Psychiatrist with over ten years of experience. Many of our psychiatrists have double or triple board certifications and are former/current medical directors or program directors.
Many of our psychiatrists have additional areas of interest and sub-specialties, such as:
- Child psychiatry,
- Forensic psychiatry,
- Psychopharmacology,
- Integrative psychiatry,
- Neuropsychiatry, and
- Psychotherapy.
Seeing a psychiatrist online at Gaba Psychiatry means choosing a psychiatrist who is an expert in their field.
Why Gaba Telepsychiatry?
Therapeutic online working environment
As well as selecting the best online psychiatrists, the staff at Gaba Telepsychiatry opt to create a working environment where psychiatrists can excel and focus on patient care.
Longer psychopharmacology visits
When you see a psychiatrist online at GABA Telepsychiatry, psychopharmacology visits last 30 minutes, and therapy sessions last 45 minutes to an hour. Our psychiatrists are trained in both medication and therapy.
Longer visits mean time is taken to prescribe the right medication and work to eliminate or minimize side effects. Longer psychopharmacology visits lead to better patient outcomes. Most people spend more time selecting a pair of shoes than working with their psychiatrist to find the right psychiatric medication. At Gaba Telepsychiatry we feel that taking the extra time makes a difference.
Focus on Teletherapy
Psychiatrists at GABA Telepsychiatry are trained in CBT, psychodynamic psychotherapy, supportive psychotherapy, and family therapy. You even have your own separate therapist and an integrative approach works better than medication and therapy alone.
Integrative Approach to Psychiatric Care
When you see a psychiatrist online at GABA Telepsychiatry, expect the psychiatrist to consider:
- Nutrition
- Hormones
- Medical illness
- Sleep
- External stressors
- Thought distortions
- Psychodynamic conflict
Psychiatrists at GABA Telepsychiatry aim to offer an integrative approach to psychiatric care in a comfortable online setting.
Emphasis is placed on listening to the patient in order to best address their symptoms and concerns. Empathy, understanding, communication, and collaboration between psychiatrists and patients are essential for good treatment outcomes.
Same-Day Psychiatrist Appointments
The office is open seven days a week, and we guarantee same-day psychiatrist appointments to our existing patients during emergencies. Therefore, the psychiatric hospitalization rate at GABA Telepsychiatry is significantly lower than other practices. Likewise, we guarantee a same-day appointment to address any side effects of medications.
Concierge Psychiatry
Gaba telepsychiatry is a private practice, not a telepsychiatry platform or a telemedicine app. Our live patient advocates are not bots, but human beings who are dedicated to patient care.
They will help with :
- Calling your pharmacy to address difficulties collecting your prescription.
- Calling your insurance to submit and follow up on out-of-network claims.
- Scheduling same-day appointments during emergencies.
- Offering LIVE tech support.
- Assisting with paperwork and communicating with human resources for disability claims.
- Collaborating with emergency contacts when needed.
- Helping access your previous medical records.
- Following up on blood work.
When seeing a psychiatrist online, the extra level of support from a compassionate patient advocate leads to a better overall experience, and in our experience improves patient outcomes.
Same Day Psychiatrist Appointment
A same-day or emergency psychiatrist is a psychiatrist who works with you for acute stabilization during times of crisis.
- An emergency psychiatrist can provide support, prescribe medication, and if needed liaise with family members and your therapist to provide additional support.
- Seeing an emergency psychiatrist for acute stabilization can prevent the need for hospitalization, reduce the time taken off work, and expedite the time to recovery.
- A same-day psychiatrist can treat you on an outpatient basis as long as you are not acutely suicidal and you are not a danger to yourself or others.
- Just like a regular psychiatrist, a same-day psychiatrist can treat depression, anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and insomnia as well as other psychiatric conditions.

Psychiatrist Appointment Online
Clinical Services: California, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee
Forensic Psychiatry Services: All of the US and Canada
At GABA Telepsychiatry, you can schedule a psychiatry appointment online in Florida, California, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, and Tennessee with a Board-Certified Psychiatrist.
Out-of-state Online Psychiatric Consultation
Online Psychiatry Consultation for the Court
If your psychiatric evaluation is for the court, any state license is accepted. A psychiatrist expert witness can testify in any state, providing they are board-certified. You can schedule from anywhere in the county. However, you will have to sign a document stating the evaluation is for the court and not for treatment purposes.
Online Psychiatry Consultation for Treatment out of State
You can schedule a psychiatrist appointment online if you live out of state, only for treatment recommendations and for a second opinion consultation. If your primary care doctor, neurologist, pain management doctor, or current psychiatrist is willing to collaborate, a psychiatrist can provide a consultation for your local doctor to provide treatment recommendations, and symptom relief, and address side effects. However, an online psychiatrist cannot prescribe or treat you directly. You may request an out-of-state online psychiatrist appointment if you require specialist care that is not available locally.
Can I schedule an online psychiatrist if I live in Canada or another country?
You can schedule an online psychiatry appointment from Canada or any country, as long as you have a local doctor who is willing to collaborate with us. As psychiatrists at GABA Telepsychiatry are not licensed outside of the US, we can provide diagnostic evaluations, second-opinion consultations, and treatment recommendations for foreign doctors.
Online psychiatrists can also provide expert witness services in any country, but you must first check with your attorney if the evaluation will be accepted as evidence.
Can an online psychiatrist send prescriptions?
Yes. An online psychiatrist can prescribe medications via electronic prescribing, as long as it is clinically appropriate. At GABA Telepsychiatry, prescriptions are sent electronically to the pharmacy of your choice.
Can an online psychiatrist prescribe controlled substances?
During the COVID-19 crisis, an emergency order was issued stating that psychiatrists could prescribe controlled substances through an online appointment. However, the rules are different from state to state and a psychiatrist must comply with state and federal guidelines.
The urgent psychiatrist can prescribe most medications, but certain regulations must be followed when prescribing controlled substances, such as stimulants, and certain anxiety or insomnia medications. Every state has specific requirements for prescribing controlled substances through telepsychiatry services and the urgent psychiatrist must follow state guidelines.
Typically to prescribe controlled substances:
- The psychiatrist must perform thorough psychiatric evaluations
- The psychiatrist must document why it is medically necessary to prescribe a controlled substance and why the benefits outweigh the risks.
- The urgent psychiatrist must follow the same standards of care as if seeing the patient in the office.
If your state does not allow the prescription of controlled substances by an online psychiatrist a consult can be sent to your PCP. Most PCPs are comfortable prescribing controlled substances providing there is a consultation from a psychiatrist, documenting the risks versus the benefits, and clinical appropriateness.
There are occasions where your psychiatrist may not find it appropriate to prescribe a controlled substance online and may recommend that you see a psychiatrist in person, or would benefit from alternative treatments.
Is there any difference between an online psychiatry appointment and an in-person psychiatry appointment?
There is no difference between an online and an in-person psychiatrist appointment as both should abide by the same standards of care while delivering telepsychiatry services.
Why would I see an online psychiatrist?
The advantage of seeing a psychiatrist online is that you can see the psychiatrist of your choice and are not restricted by location. Getting an appointment with a psychiatrist online means you do not have to travel and do not have to take time off work.
Urgent Psychiatric Care Online
Many patients find it hard to get immediate access to a psychiatrist when most needed. Obtaining urgent psychiatric care online can help with immediate stabilizations, preventing time off work, immediate resolution of symptoms, and can sometimes prevent hospitalization. Urgent psychiatric care can include acute treatment of insomnia, panic attacks, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and OCD.
Online Psychiatrist Services
"Gaba Telepsychiatry offers an integrative approach to psychiatric evaluation"
Many factors can affect psychiatric illness such as genetic, developmental, trauma, nutritional factors, hormones, career difficulties, relationship difficulties, coping skills, concurrent medical illness, head injury, side effects of medications, and many others.
Whether seeing a patient in the office or via telepsychiatry the psychiatrist must consider all of these factors to provide optimum care.
Teletherapy
Teletherapy is ideally traditional psychotherapy in an online format. Our psychiatrists are psychodynamically trained and experienced in teletherapy.
Types of teletherapy include:
- Cognitive Behavioral therapy
- Supportive psychotherapy
- Psychodynamic psychotherapy
- Group psychotherapy
- Family Therapy
- Relationship Therapy
Teletherapy should be conducted via video by a telepsychiatrist who is licensed and insured in the state where you reside.
Teletherapy should not be conducted via text message, and should not be conducted by phone except during emergencies.
At Gaba Telepsychiatry psychiatrists are expected to provide the highest possible standards when performing teletherapy. With over ten years of training and experience in therapy, standards of care are followed as guided by the American Psychiatric Association, and American Psychological Association.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy via Teletherapy
Psychodynamic psychotherapy requires years of training. Adapting psychodynamic psychotherapy to a telemedicine format is also an art form in itself. A psychiatrist to perform psychodynamic teletherapy must be conscientious about maintaining standards of care.
Supportive Psychotherapy via Teletherapy
Supportive psychotherapy can be highly effective online. Teletherapy is convenient and allows you to see the provider of your choice irrespective of location. Longer visits, allow our psychiatrists to provide a combination of medication management and supportive teletherapy.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy via Teletherapy
Cognitive behavioral therapy combined with medication management has often been found to be more useful than medication alone. Longer visits allow our online psychiatrists to teach patients cognitive behavioral therapy techniques as well as prescribe medication.
Conditions Treated by Psychiatrist Online
Our psychiatrists can treat a wide range of telepsychiatry services via an online psychiatrist appointment. Many of our psychiatrists may have a special interest in your condition, or symptoms, and provide a more specialized service.
